Leon Pernat graduated from the university study program of mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, in 1987, and obtained the professional title of university graduate mechanical engineer. After graduation, he was employed at the TAM factory and worked as a researcher for 3 years at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, in the Laboratory for Automation and Optimization of Production.
In 1991, he completed his postgraduate master's studies and successfully defended his master's thesis: "Programming Model for Adaptive Machining Systems", thereby obtaining the scientific title of Master of Technical Sciences in the field of mechanical engineering.
In 1992, he was employed at Metalna TIO, Maribor, as the head of the department for work and time studies. In 1994, he was a technologist designer in the field of toolmaking at TAM Tehnološka oprema doo. In 1996, he was the head of development and technology at the ISKRA-RELEJI dd factory and the head of the research and development unit IREL Makole. Since April 2016, he has been employed at TEHNOPOND doo, where he is the head of development.
From 1996 to 2001, he was elected to the title of senior lecturer for the subject area: Processing technologies and systems - for the higher education professional program at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He participated in the pedagogical process at the Faculty of Engineering as a contractual associate. In 2003, the Senate of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering elected him to the development title - development associate. Since 2012, he has been elected to the title of lecturer for the field of Techniques at the University of Ptuj and teaches the subject Production Planning and Management.
